PROJECT FOR JANUARY CHARMING GIRLS' CLUB

I am slowly getting back into the swing of stitching. I am not ready for working in the sewing room yet. I prepared this angel stitchery project before my surgery so that I would have something easy to work on once I was able to tolerate sitting a while. These angels are free patterns available from Primitive Blessings by Twigs n Sprigs. There are many free patterns available on this site and worth checking out when you have the time. I just wish there were more than five of these angels. I want to make a little wall hanging project with them and have to decide how to fill in since five is an odd number. I would even draw my own if I could think of a word or two more than would be short enough to fit and appropriate. The ones I have say "Peace", "Hope", "Faith". "Charity", and "Love". Any ideas?
These are close up shots of the two angels I have finished. I don't have good light today for picture taking. The fabric I used is a tan crackle design. Looks white in the close-ups. The first picture shows the fabric much better.

I have no idea how much quilting I will be able to do this month. It has been almost four weeks since my knee replacement surgery but I still have some recuperation time to go. I am going to use this stitchery project as my January "Charming Girls Club" submission. I feel I can get these done and made into a small quilt.

I have been watching lots of television this past month. Not much else I could do laying in bed. I can help you plan a wedding, pick your wedding dress, select a very expensive cake, prepare your house for sale, help you find your first home, show you how to flip a house, how to clean your house. I can tell you all about 18 Kids and Counting, the Little Couple, the Rollofs, how to lose weight, update you on The Young and the Restless. You get the idea! Too much television!

My physical therapy is coming along fine. I have good bend in my knee but oh does it ache! I had been warned by the physician assistant that works with my surgeon that the aching would set in once all the medications injected in the knee area wore off. Still it is not as bad as my first knee surgery. I should start outpatient physical therapy this next week. I don't need it for the bend in the knee but to keep things moving well.

My husband fixed sauerkraut & pork in the crock pot for out New Year's Day meal. That is supposed to bring us good luck in the New Year. I know different parts of the country have their own traditional meals for New Year's Day. That was the tradition from where we lived in Ohio in our growing up years and early marriage. I hope it works!

Stop back again for another visit soon!

Karen

Karen, I hope you continue to progress in your recovery.
I love the blocks, might have to think about them. I am more in the mood to sit and hand stitch than piece on the machine.

Karen, Glad to hear you're recovering slowly but surely. I see you've been watching a lot of TLC and HGTV, LOL. Take care of yourself and Happy New Year!

Those little stitcheries are darling, Karen.

I'm happy to hear that your knee is coming along, albeit slowly. Just think...in a couple of months you'll be as good as new...or maybe better with all that "new" knowledge you've acquired. (wink)

Glad you're "back". I've missed you!

Love those angels. I bet you can come up with several more as talented as you are. You are watching the same stations I do. So very happy that you are able to at least feel good enough to keep up as you are. Many hugs neighbor.

Happy New Year Karen.....how about..."believe" for your angels? Glad to hear the rehab is going well....Weight loss is the current trend on TV here....I guess with the new year they target those trying to start afresh with a weight loss / exercise program....I just need to keep motivated - am slowly getting there! I hope your traditional New Year's Day meal brings you good luck...! wishing you all the best for a healthy and creative new year...!

It is wonderful to see a blog post from you!!! So happy to hear you are on the mend.
My first thought with the angels was "joy". They are really cute. You could set 5 of them in a 9 patch, one in the center and the other 4 diagonal. Does that make sense?
Do as your told and continue to mend! I've been thinking about you.

Strlady said...

Lori and I were thinking on the same line! LOL! while I was reading I thought, more blocks? Five is great for a nine patch quilt (3x3 - with the angels in the corner and one in the center) and then you mentioned a short word to create more angels and "Joy" popped into my head! The Angels look wonderful. I love those stitchery patterns but I am soooo bad at needlework that I can only admire those made by others. So happy to hear you are on the mend. Hopefully the ache will ease a bit and allow you to feel a bit more mobile but in the meantime, you are in the company of 'Angels'
:)

Those angels are darling!!! I like the word Joy as some suggested, also praise.
SO glad you're mending well - recovering is no fun but it will be better soon. UGH all that tv, I hate tv, lol, all I can bear to watch is dvd's of the old shows, like Lucy. I'm glad you're getting some stitching done now, and it's really good to see you post!

Jeanette said...

I was thinking the same as Lori, too. I do like joy for a 6th angel, though. Maybe you should switch to CSI and other crime shows for awhile. ;-) There seems to always be one of those one here at least. Happy New Year!

For your angels project there, how about the word "patients", "acceptance"... hmmm, maybe a bit too long. "eternity"... just some thoughts... 8-)
Sounds like everything is going well with your recovery Karen... good to hear...

Just love the little embroidery projects. So cute. Thanks for your nice comments. I'm so glad to find you!
Hope your knee heels soon. BTW, how was your New Year's dinner? Sounds delicious to me!

Kim said...

I agree that the missing word is Joy. This is a nice project and good planning on your part. Seems to me that your traditional NYD pork dinner has brought you two a long way so it must be good luck! My grandmother used to make a meal like this and it was delicious - yummy!

Hi Karen, if I'm no too late to give an idea... how about 'wisdom'?

And for my January header picture, I used a pattern from Buttermilk Basin. I bought all 12 months and if I rememder correctly, it was a little bit pricy. Could have been since I'm in Canada. But it was worth it - I love them and one day will stitch them again into a quilt.

Hope you continue to heal and keep us posted on any good shows! Kimberly
