SEEING DOUBLE

I have lots to share with you today.  First, I have the two "Basket Collection" quilt tops completed.  It is hard to tell the difference between the two but there are a few differences in the fabric.
I pinned these to the design wall and I sure did not do a good job of getting them straight.  I did not pin the bottoms so they are not showing flat either.  But you get the idea.  One will make a nice gift.
Next, I forgot to share my October stitchery with you.  And since it is November 1st today, I will also share November's.
I completed another basket block in the Designer BOM series.  Some of you have asked about the BOM.  It is not a current one but from a year or two ago.  It is from Moda U and has basket blocks and filler blocks from different designers.  The one just completed is a Minnick & Simpson design.  The background is pieced and makes for a heavier block.
I have a new project going.  I know it is fall but I am working on "Uncle Sam" by Country Threads.  It will make a nice wall hanging for July.  I have a few stars left to machine stitch around, the beard to stitch, and the face to complete.  Then quilt.
Uncle Sam is hanging crooked like the basket quilts.  He was easy to piece.
I have finally joined the ranks of being a Schnibbler.  I have so enjoyed seeing the year of Schnibbles on so many blogs and wanted to make some of my own.  Just needed some time.  This pattern was "Lincoln" and is made with two charm packs of Wicassett by Minick and Simpson.  It was easy to make.  In fact, I made it in one day.  I love the way the stars are pieced.  The points do not come to the edge of the block and make for easy assembly with adjoining blocks.  Just need to quilt the top.

There is a new free quilt pattern series just starting at The Rabbit Factory.  You can see the quilt on the blog at http://therabbitfactory.blogspot.com/.   It is a series of four applique patterns and the first can be found here.  I am saving the patterns as there isn't  time right now but they are going to be well worth saving.

Our company left but one will be returning in about a week or so.  I need to get her interested in sewing quilts!

Beautiful weather here.  It is 82 degrees right now.  Have a great day wherever you are.

Karen

  2. Happy First of November Karen! Your applique baskets are WONDERFUL! You sure can whip up some applique. The homespun baskets quilt is wonderfully primitive American. In fact, looking at all the pictures you post they all lean towards Independence with exception of your stitcheries. Oh and I must absolutely comment about your new addiction of Schnibbling with the rest of us. I never did make that one.

  7. Wow! I love the basket quilts!! Someone is going to love that gift!!
I also really like the Uncle Sam pattern. Country Threads is another one does that such a good job on their patterns.
I like the new free BOM. It seems like they would also make a nice wool applique hanging if you wanted to do just one block.

  16. Karen, Wow, you HAVE been busy! I can see subtle differnces in the first two quilts...they are both wonderful. I love your monthly stitcheries too, so welcoming. Your new patriotic things are really great and I adore the Schnibbles too!!! Well, I guess I could have shortened this up and said..."I love everything, LOL". Thanks so much for sharing and thank you too for the link to the free quilt. I'm saving them too. My sewing room is almost ready then it's time to finish up to very overdue projects and start a beautiful kit that I got in Arizona 2 years ago. I will need to take breaks from it and I plan to get on some applique during those times and hopefull a couple of Schnibble to dress up my room and make it look like a quilters room! Hugs...

  24. I am SO impressed with what you've done Karen! I love the matching quilts, your stitcheries, and oh that Minnick and Simpson block - I just love everything they do - Uncle Sam is wonderful, and that star quilt, well, what can I say - it's made with M&S fabric!!! Really wonderful. I think the reason you're getting so much done is because it's so lovely and warm there, lol - we've got snowflakes in the forecast, and I think my blood has frozen!

  28. Gorgeous quilts! I love the idea of working on a quilt a few holidays in advance. When you're a slow-poke quilter like me, that's how you have to do it! Also, when you pull out a Fourth of July quilt you made during Thanksgiving, it feels new all over again! Those basket quilts are just amazing!
