FUNNY CHRISTMAS TREE STORY

Our company just left.  Boohoo!  We had a wonderful week with them.  Our friends  spent about five days at Disney World with their daughter and grandson.  Then their family flew back north andour friends came to spend a week with us.  It is like being on vacation while they are here.  We do sight see or do something every day and eat out at least once a day.  Good times with dear friends.

My December stitchery is finally displayed.  I forgot to put it out until a few minutes ago.

The funny story is that we stopped at a local church thrift store that has very nice merchandise.  I spotted a prim style tree.  It had a real tree log for the main part of the tree and prim style branches.  Not the kind of tree every one would like but it caught my eye.  I have a set of three smaller prim style trees and I thought it would look good with them.  My husband thought it was a bit ugly for a Christmas tree, so we left it in the store.  Our friends kept saying I needed it to go with my other smaller trees.  I decided I would go back the next day and buy it.  Surely no one would want an "ugly" tree like that.  They also had a set of three smaller trees in the store similar to what I already had.  Well, I went back on Saturday morning but not right at opening time.  I went in through the side door as I had some items to donate.  Then into the store and into the book section.  A favorite place to visit.  When I came out and went around to where the tree should have been, it was no where to be found.  The smaller trees were also gone.  I figured that someone else liked prim style and bought them all.  I should mention that our friends had gone out on their own and my husband off to play golf.  A while after I got home, our friends came in.  We sat out by the pool for a while.  On a trip into the house, I walked by the living room  but did not see  the big tree that had been added to my little trees in front of the window.  My next trip through, I spotted it.  Our friends could not wait to tell me the story.  They had trouble finding the thrift store and when they finally did and pulled into the parking lot, my car was sitting there.  They had decided to buy the tree as a surprise and were disappointed that I had beat them there.  They went into the store, did not see me, so Judy went sneaking to the side room to see if I was in looking at books.  She spotted me and then hurried to the front to give John the all clear signal.  They grabbed the tree and ran to the register to pay.  The older lady at the register was trying to start a conversation with them.  They had to rush her and get out of the store before I came out.  So they were the ones who bought my big tree.  We had a good laugh.  Then we decided to wait and see how long it took my husband to notice the tree.  He never did until Judy took him into the living room this morning and got him to look in that direction.  I had told him the day before that the tree was already sold when I got to the store and he said he was glad.   Now he is threatening to saw the log in half.  LOL!  I think I will get some fabric style ribbon and hang my metal cookie cutters on it.  And I need some plain twinkle lights.  I could not get a good picture of the tree because of the sunlight in the window but here it is.

I will post a picture when it is decorated and can get a better picture.

I put out the first Christmas quilt this afternoon.  And I think I will use it for my holiday header photo also.  Not a new piece and I have shown it before on the blog.  The pattern is from a Red Wagon book.

I drape it across the living room sofa.  I had the book for several years before I finally made the angel quilt and it is a favorite one to display during the holidays.

Time for some sewing.  Have a great day and come back soon for another visit.

Karen

I love your new trees and fun story about them! That makes them even more special. I also love your angel quilt. I've been meaning to make that one and want to hang it over my front door, inside. I just need to reduce the size a tiny bit to make it fit. I pulled it out one day but couldn't decide on a background fabric. I love the one you used, I'm guessing it's an old Jan Patek fabric? Oh well, I'm sure I can come up with something, you have given me inspiration to pull it out. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!

I so enjoy your blog and your quilts. Your style is my style! Hope I can find some of those trees one day! My husband would be the first to agree with yours that they are "ugly"!! He just doesn't appreciate primitive!

I love the tree!!! I have the set of three littles one and would LOVE a larger one to go with them. Very festive and prim and excellent! :-D I like the angels, too. I pulled out a kit I've had for a while that is similar from Jan Patek -- think I'll get started on it!
Blessings,
Mary Lou

Too funny...and I love your new tree!! Do what I did...I took some homespun fabrics and tore strips off and hung my rusted ornaments with them..LOOKED great!! No need to go and buy ribbon (and you are just ripping off little strips so it's not like you are using up your stash...god forbid!!)
Take care!

Oh how funny! I can just imagine your friend's worry at seeing your car in the lot. :-) What great memories the tree will give you now. The angels are very cute too. Have a happy week!

That is funny :0) Now that tree will have the added memory of your friends' gift. It's funny to think of them sneaking around the store trying to remain unseen.

What a great tree story! I love it, that's the kind of tree I'd like someday. Along with a pink aluminum one from the 50's...in separate rooms of course. I love your December stitchery, and of course your angel quilt!

What a wonderful thing for your friends to do. I bet they were SOOOO excited that they snuck it out right under you nose LOL. When I worked at Ben Franklin, we would sell at least 100 of those kinds of trees every year. They are VERY popular here.
