SANTA ORNAMENT

We still have company and are having a good time with them.  But I needed to sit and do some stitching too.  I have this Santa ornament from Chickadee Hollow Designs that I started outlining with embroidery floss yesterday evening.  Still  more needs done to it.
There have several vintage look ornaments to select from.  The stitcheries are printed onto fabric already colored.  You do some simple stitching to outline different parts and fill in lines within the designs.  It is taking longer to stitch than I thought it would.  You layer Warm 'n Natural batting behind the fabric before doing the embroidery.  Then add a backing, cut on the dotted liners, and then do a button hole stitch to finish off the ornament.

I changed my header photo and the blog background today.  I will probably change it again soon as I have several holiday quilts to pick from.  Or maybe I will do a collage of them.

My only Black Friday shopping yesterday was to go to Hobby Lobby for the batting and a marking pen that I needed.  The craft store was not at all busy.  I do not like the craziness of the crowds on the day after our Thanksgiving.  For those of you reading this that lives elsewhere in the world, it is a tradition for stores to have big sales the day after Thanksgiving to kick off the Christmas shopping season.  It is called Black Friday.  So the stores, instead of being in the red in sales numbers, they are in the black or to the money making side of the scale.

Happy Holidays!
Karen

Love the quilt and santa Karen!
Thanks for explaining-I was wondering what 'black friday' was all about. No, we don't have that here although we have had sales recently, more than normal I think.

I love your header quilt and look forward to more of your holiday creations! Very fun Santa ornament. Why can't there be more hours in a day to complete all of the handwork that calls to us?
The snowfall on your blog is very clever!

I really like the quilt that you used as your header photo. I just had to study it for a while. I had forgotten how much I love that block. The angels that are fussy cut for the center of the block and border really make the quilt sparkle.

Karen, I love this little Santa ornament. So cute. The quilt in your header is beautiful, but then everything you make is. (grin) I avoided the stores like they had the plague on Friday. Just nothing I want bad enough to put up with all the nonsense. I went to Joann's today and had to wait in line for 40 minutes just to pay for some floss and crochet cotton. I almost put it back, but I really wanted it. Have a good one.

Cute ornament, and I love the quilt in your header!!! I hate Black Friday too. I used to enjoy it, back when it FIRST started, I'd wear my Santa hat and have a blast. But it's gotten too big and nasty, and of course we know that the stores only stock one or two of their doorbusters. So you have 100 people fighting over it. No thanks!

I love your new header--- looks like you:) We opted for the online deals and decorated yesterday. We went shopping today-- I made it to Primitive Gatherings Christmas open house :) We did go to Hobby Lobby and home goods in Appleton and they were the businest stores even compared to Best Buy and the Mall. Makes me nervous about the economy. People are crafting for Christmas rather than buying.

Karen, I really love your new header. That is a great quilt!

Love your stitchery you are working on too.

I toughed it out this year and did some crazy black Friday shopping. Couldn't believe the crowds and how orderly everyone was. It calmed my fears of the whole thing quite a bit. This was my very first Black Friday shopping ever!

I really love the look of stitching through the batting like you are doing with the ornament. It is going to look great, and what a fun pick up quick project. Got a little stitching in this weekend. Even if its just for a few minutes its so relaxing. Love your header quilt.

I love your new header picture. I ended up shopping on Friday but only at sewing machine dealers. I need a new one and it just happened to be the day. Did you know they have Black Friday specials, too? Surprised me!!! I stayed away from all the crazy places.

The header will be a great venue to share your holiday quilts. I have that black folk angel fabric too. You did a fantastic job using it. Mine is still in my stash.

Love the quilt! I'm working on 3 of the same ornaments - they are so fun and I'm enjoying the handwork. Have you ever done any coloring with crayons or pens for embroidery work?
