Hospitality

The pineapple is a sign of welcome and hospitality.  I finished a wall quilt from a Jan Patek/Sandy Klop pattern called "Hospitality".  The pattern is in "Folk Art Favorites Part 1 Winter Holidays".

The block on the left is "Hospitality".  The center block is "Home", and the last reads "Holidays".

This is not my first quilt with a pineapple on it.  I like to use the design because of its symbolism and I like to display them close to our front door.  Have you made a quilt with a pineapple design?

I have been working on snowman blocks and hope to have something to show you soon.

  1. OMG...I have never seen that pineapple from Jan's designs! How cute is that star on top!! I was on a pineapple roll two years ago! I think I did 4 with pineapples that year! Love 'em...

  2. I used to have a counted cross stitch of a pineapple near my door. I wonder what happened to it? I have never done a quilt with them.
I laughed at your last comment--seems like lately you have so much to show us. Your statement made it sound like you rarely do. And it is all good stuff!! : )

  3. Very nice. I like the symbolism too. I have not appliqued a pineapple but I have painted a few. They are fun.

  6. This is so pretty Karen... can't go wrong with a Jan Patek design! When I read Janet's comment about having a cross stitched pineapple design, I too am wondering what happened to the one I stitched years ago! I have a pineapple mini quilt from Missie Carpenter that is in the works... seeing your pineapple quilt is telling me to get busy on mine!

  11. Wonderful piece and perfect for a springtime or all piece. I have a few pineapple designs and started one, but it is so stiff from the heavy fusible, so I will just have to finish it and hope a wash softens it up.

  14. I love pineapples almost as much as I love snowmen. I haven't made any quilts with pineapples and I've not made anything with the pineapple block but I did crochet a pineapple afghan for my sister once.

I saw a template at a quilt show yesterday for making the pineapple block. The demonstration failed to convince me I needed it.

I did, however, purchase a few small woolie projects...I thought of you. Now, I've never made anything with wool so this will be a learning experience for me.

  15. Your pineapple quilt is turning out great! I started one of Jan's pineapple quilts years ago - there are hearts in between them - really need to dig it out and finish it. I remember the pineapple tops were kind of fiddly and prickly to deal with - just like real pineapple tops! Always fun to see your projects!

  19. I've not yet made anything with a pineapple but I want to! I want one on my door but that door is metal and I've yet to find a good way to hand anything on it. Magnets hold for a little while but they seem to weaken or the hanging is too heavy and it slides down. Any suggestions? blessings, marlene
