I used an Electric Quilt applique design and modified it slightly to make this basket block.

Patriotic String Star

A late Happy 4th of July!  I have been working on a 8  pointed string star in red, white, blue and gold and finally have one complete.  I would have had two but I forgot to tighten my stitches before stitching the strips to paper.  When I pulled the paper off my seams were coming apart and the bias edges stretching.  I decided just to start again from scratch.
The block is 16 inches.  I don't know how many I am going to make.  Maybe nine.  Maybe more.  Maybe less.  It just depends on how well they go together and if my patience doesn't fail me.

Enjoy your holiday weekend!
Karen

  1. I have seen several strings quilts in blogland but never a star. It's very pretty too, Karen. 16" makes it a nice size.

  3. I love that block, beautiful with the strips and colors you used, definitely worth making into a larger quilt. I wish I had the patience to do something like that.

  10. Love what you're doing. Your choice of fabrics make the star very prim looking. I'm in agreement with the others, keep going.

  18. Hi Karen! Happy 4th to you also! Love the string star you are working on. I've quilted three string star quilts for one of my great-aunts. She gave me the newspaper pattern and said it's a great way to use scraps, but I've not tackled it yet. Now that I've seen yours, I may have to 'move it up the list'!
    Thanks for sharing!
