I used an Electric Quilt applique design and modified it slightly to make this basket block.

Fall Festival Finale

I am late to the party for the Fall Festival Finale.  I have been working on a Jan Patek pattern called " Fall Festival" along with Lori and some other quilters.  We were doing a few blocks a month.  The final posting was on June 2nd.  Time crept up on me and I did not have my blocks sewn together.  I was doing that on June 2nd when I discovered that I had made one of the wide blocks too wide.  That meant removing some applique parts, shortening the background in width and then re-stitching the applique.  I was then able to get everything put together.  Then I had to wait for a second pair of hands to be here to help hold the quilt up for a picture.

Not a great picture as it is a large quilt and not easy for two people to hold at an even level.  My favorite block is the pumpkin and vine across the top of the quilt.  The pumpkin and crow block on the bottom is the one I had to adjust the width on.  I was able to use one of my blues from the main body of the quilt for the first narrow border by using scraps and piecing them together.  Just barely enough to do it.

You probably have already seen the other quilts and links on Lori's blog but just in case, go here.

I have been battling a gout attack in my left foot.  Very painful and hard to walk.  A trip to the doctor's office and a prescription have helped and I can walk almost normal now but it was a tough week.

Have a great Sunday!
Karen

  1. I am in 'pain' with you on the foot thing--I ended up bruising my left foot by my little toe twice in about 4 days--the second time was even worse than the first time--I am pretty sure I did not break anything--but I have been in discomfort ever since--am ok if I stay off it--but that gets boring--can walk on it--but then afterwards it lets me know it is not happy with me!!!!
Your quilt looks lovely--alot of nice stitching you did--
    enjoy the moments, di

  8. Love how your quilt came out, really beautiful piece and it was fun following along.
Gout doesn't sound fun, luckily my feet are still ok, even with a few breaks. The problem is finding a shoe store that has my size in hiking boots, hate ordering online.

  9. Your quilt is super fun. Jan's pattern can have some challenging 'figure it out parts'. You did good! Hope the prescription keeps helping and you continue to feel better.

Your quilt looks so good, Karen. I really like the effect that blue border has on it. Really sets it off well.

  22. I love your quilt. Black borders were a good choice. I always think black looks country and makes things pop. Sorry about your foot - that's sure no fun.

  23. Ripping is a part of quilting,, sad to say..this turned out geat.. cheerul quilt... and a nice balance of elements.. Jan Patek's country friendly patterns in a room rather make it cozy. The black fabric makes a definite statement.

  24. You get extra credit for fixing that block instead of making a new one. The results are lovely. I love Jan Patek's work.

  28. The quilt top is darling! I love it! DH has had some problems with gout and takes a prescription to ward off attacks. I recently found out I have arthritis in one foot and it's not fun either. I don't like the side effects of the medicine, so I'm not taking anything and hoping I will get used to it.
