The third block of "Love Letters" done.
The patterns for the quilt are in a Blackbird Designs book called "When the Cold Wind Blows". I am doing Alma's version of the quilt. I like how Barb and Alma each make their own versions of a pattern. I was attracted to the colors in Alma's version. Though I am not using all of the same fabrics, some are and others are similar to the originals used. The blocks are large. Twenty-eight inches square. Though the applique pieces are not small, I find it hard to line up everything on the block and get it in place similar to the original. I get tired of working on the quilt after doing a block, so I have only done three blocks. I have shown the first two blocks previously on my blog but will add in a picture so you can see what they look like.
I started the project in July of 2010 so I am a bit slow on this project. Six more blocks to go. At the rate I am going, it may be another couple years before I finish.
Join me in stitching a while today!

no matter how long you will need to finish this beauty, your blocks are really great!
Well, whenever it gets finished, it will be a beauty!!
I love the shades of blue you are using.
The blocks are great! I've got the book, and I want to give it a try some day!
Lovely work!!! I'm just beginning an applique project, and so enjoy seeing others work! Thanks for sharing. The blocks are wonderful!!
Blessings
This is my favorite one so far. Great job!
Wow those are labor intensive! But they are definitely beautiful. Take your time. It will be there tomorrow :o)
I understand totally karen but it is great that you can pickup and get going when you can. it looks fantastic!
It is a lovely block Karen. Keep in there, it will eventually get done. I've got an applique project I started in 2004. I've only done 5 of the 12 blocks. I've GOT to get back to that one. . .
I can see why you chose the colors you did, very soft and yet striking. Your blocks are beautiful as usual.:)
those blocks are so big. it will take a while to do them but they are sure looking good.
Beautiful blocks - you get so much accomplished, don't beat yourself up over this one taking a little bit of time.
So pretty - 28" is a big block - how many are there?
I love your Header quilt!! Very SWEET! But it's your 'When the CWDB' blocks that have me breathing heavy!! LOVE THIS QUILT!! I have the book and REALLY want to make this quilt...just need to improve my applique skills first!! Thanks for the inspiration!

Those are beautiful blocks Karen! Some good quilts cannot be rushed but instead should be savored- that would work for just about every single one of mine! LOL
great blocks, your applique projects are always so lovely- I really like your rabbit header picture as well.
I did spend some time stitching today...but it was quilting my machine not hand and I had a ball.
These blocks are beautiful!
I love how your Love Letters block looks. Enjoy!
What a so lovely block !!! and a so large one !!!
I love this quilt too and I understand that you choose to follow the pattern. It's really different but I learn with Sue Spargo's pattern to be less perfectionnist when I am applicating on a large block as you do. All the time, I was trying to make the same quilt as the pattern. Now, I am trying to do the best but to do mine ;)
Hope you understand my impoverished english ;)
Hé again a lovely block! Slowly but surely! Greetings
Lida
Gorgeous...!!!! This is such a wonderful pattern, your quilt is going to be stunning.
Your blocks a lovely. You are a lot further than I am. I bought the book in 2010 and still haven't chosen the fabric.
Your blocks are wonderful. I love Balckbird Designs. Your bunny header is delightful. It's fun to pull out a cute seasonal quilt and enjoy. Thanks for your inspiration.
I love the fabrics you have chosen and I like Alma's version too. You will finish it eventually.
Such gorgeous blocks!!!!!!! I love your new header quilt!!!
Your blocks are just gorgeous!
Your blocks look great Karen! That is my favorite Blackbird Designs book. I bought up enough fabric to do almost everything in there. I hope mine looks as good as yours. :)
That is wonderful. Love the pattern and the fabrics used. Great job!
It looks great. I love Blackbird designs and have made many. I see you are in Florida. My DH is about to start a job in Ocala. Is that near you? Perhaps we could inspire each other to finish!
LOVE your easter bunny header - fabulous colors.
The Cold Wind blocks are equally pretty. More amazing projects! Thank you for sharing.
Your Love Letters block is beautiful, as are all your blocks.
As long as you enjoy the process it doesn't matter how long it takes. Beautiful blocks.
