Old Voices New Impressions Final Blocks

I have the last three blocks done for my "Old Voices New Impressions" quilt that I am working on.

Basket of Cherries

Bird With Fruit

I have the sashing and border fabrics but have not done any cutting.  I am set up for prepping applique in my cutting area and do not want to switch just yet.  But soon.  I am anxious to see all together.

Links set up below for any other stitchers with blocks to share.

Country Album Part Three

Two more blocks completed.  The Watermelon block and the Sunflower block.  Both are from the book "Forget-Me Not" by Jeana Kimball.

After the Watermelon block was complete, I found a fabric in stash that would have been a better choice than the red.  I found a pinkish red that I wish I had used.  Hopefully, I will remember it the next time I do a watermelon block for a quilt.

And all six blocks to date.  I will soon run out of room on the design wall.

I have another block in the stitching process and another that I prepped today.  Happy stitching.

Country Album Part Two

Two more blocks finished for the album quilt.  First up is the Potted Roses block and the design is from the Forget Me Not book by Jeana Kimball.

And the Grapes block is also from the same book.

The four completed blocks thus far.

I just finished cutting out the rest of the background squares.  I purchased 15 yards of the Kona Cotton.  I cut all the background blocks down one side of the fabric so that I will have the length of the yardage for the borders.  A chore to handle all that fabric doing the cutting but it is over and done with until border cutting time.  I have some of the stitching done on the fifth block and hope to finish it tomorrow.

We had a cold spell here in Florida but warmed up to about 68 degrees this afternoon.  Typical January weather.  Hope you have dug out from the winter storm if you live where it hit so hard.

Country Album

I have started another new applique project.  This time, I am combining designs from five sources.  The block designs will be by Jeana Kimball and Laurene Sinema.  I plan on trimming the blocks to a fifteen inch square later on.

The first block is from Laurene's Miniature Folk Art pattern.  Of course, I had to enlarge the block pattern.  I love this design and wanted to do it first.

The next block is from one of Jeana's designs in her "Forget Me Not" book and is called Crossed Roses.

The background fabric I am using is Kona Cotton in a bone shade.  And I am doing needle turn applique.  I often get asked about both the background I have used and what style of applique I am using.

I have a third block close to done.  Back to stitching on it.

Sew Alongs

Ah, the time of year for new sew alongs.  And some are free patterns.  I am joining in on Sentimental Stitches 1857 Album sew-along and also Wendy Whellum's free block of the month.  Wendy's started in December.  Here are my December and January blocks that Wendy has posted the patterns for.

And I have the three blocks made for The 1857 Album but have not trimmed them yet.  I marked the trim lines and then stitched the corner diamond shapes in place.  I do not want to trim until I am ready to start sewing blocks together.

I will be using mostly solids for The 1857 Album blocks as that is what was used in the original quilt.  My local quilt shop has a good selection of solids.

I am working on another applique project too and will soon have another block to share with you.

Star In the East

Here is my January block for the Shenandoah Botanical Quilt Sew-Along.  This one is titled "Star In the East".   Much easier than last month's block.

Bunny Hill Snowman Quilt

I think most quilters that had intentions of making the first Bunny Hill free block of the month long ago finished their quilts.  Me....I just now have a completed top but it is not quilted.  I found a folder with patterns from another year of their free block of the month patterns and noted that somewhere along the way, I made two blocks.  Maybe someday I will be inspired to do the rest.  My only thought about this quilt is that it is not large enough.  I would rather it be big enough to cover up with.  As is, it would make a nice lap quilt.

More stitching to do.  I am heading back to the sewing room.

Noah and Matilda January Update

I am back working on the Noah and Matilda blocks that Dawn (Collector With A Needle) and her daughter have drawn from an antique quilt.  Here are the latest four blocks that I completed.

I am using mainly Kansas Troubles fabrics that I have a crate full of with a little bit of Jan Patek's fabric designs.  I am using a fusible/machine stitched technique for the quilt blocks.  Here are all that  I have completed.  Gives me lots of enthusiasm seeing them on the design wall.

I read on Facebook that she has some exciting news.  She is going to be traveling to the Netherlands to do a trunk show.  You can read about it here.
