Gwennie Inspired Medallion Center

I have been looking forward to the reveal today of the medallion center basket style blocks that participants have made for the "Gwennie Inspired Medallion Quilt Along".  You can go here to view other blocks.  Below is my block.

I selected a block pattern from the Old Otterbein Church quilt.  The block pattern is in a set put out by the Baltimore Applique Society and sold through the Winterthur Museum.  I have been wanting to make a quilt with the red and teal combination. The block in the quilt is done in this color combination.  The applique was fairly easy to do in the needle turn method.  Now I have to think about how to interpret the next round's theme which is "childhood".

Lovely block Karen, it will be fun to see what people choose as childhood inspirations for the next round. Lovely colours.

It will be interesting to see what you do in the next round. Your center block is beautiful. I think I may even have seen that basket design in years past!

What a pretty block! And it does have that Gwennie flavour, even though it is a vintage pattern. Seems like something she would have chosen too!

Stunning! Not a color combo I have seen--or maybe I have just not paid attention to it, but it really has vitality!
And the applique on the "basket" is incredible.

That's a great block and I love how you've interpreted it. The basket has a funky whimsy look with its narrow strips and shape and the tall straight flowers look like they're trying to say to the basket to shape up and start acting more sophisticated. Sorry, hahaha. I got a little weird.

Both your basket and flowers are very striking. I love the red and blue together. Did you hand applique? How big is your block?
