Dearest Boy

The 30th has rolled around quick but I am prepared to show the latest block for the "Dearest Boy" quilt.  Though the block does not look hard, it was a bit deceiving.  I did not want to sew partial seams to get the stems sewn in place.  Instead, I did applique on the points closest to the star.  I should have adjusted the placement of my stems as the lower part will get chopped off flat instead of in a point where the two stems meet.  What I mean by chopped off is that the stem bottoms will be part of a seam and flat in that area instead of nicely meeting above the seam allowance.  I am not changing it.

Doreen has joined in on making the quilt blocks so that makes five of us now.  She got a late start and is doing her own schedule of blocks.  You can visit her here.  You can visit Cathy here.  Julie here.  And Carole here

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

I like the colors in these blocks. The appliqued stems are a great alternative to partial seams. I follow Doreen but haven't 'met' the other ladies yet. It will be fun to see everyone's variations of Dearest Boy.

I did a simple version of the star. I also appliqued the stems to the block. I love your fabrics. Hugs

What fascinating fabric for the flower points and center. What line is that and who designed it? Each new block has a personality of it's own. I think the designer did a great job.

Love your fabric choices and colors! I had regrets too when I made my peony quilt. Live and learn and move forward. Your block looks fantastic!

Si can see where this was not an easy block, but yours looks great and the stem? No big deal!

I understand what you are saying about the stems, but it won't matter at all. What a fun block!

Love it! I would think applique would be easier on those stems, I would have done that too. Very nice!

Very pretty! I've seen Julie's block and she struggled with the stems, too. I'm off to see the others now. These are some of my favorite posts.

Love the block! I can't do sampler style projects, because I never finish them! Is your other quilt going to Houston??

I wouldn't do it over again, either, Karen. But then, I wouldn't have done it in the first place. It is applique, after all. LOL
It looks good to me, and I really like that darker gold fabric in your stars.

Your piecing is so perfect where all the flowers meet - each piece a sharp point and lined up!! Very impressive. Lovely color choices as always!
