Mid-February Dearest Boy Update and More

February 15th and time for a "Dearest Boy" update.  A bird block this time.  And I see that I still need to do the eye.  I changed the bird design slightly for ease applique.

I finished an "Oak Leaf and Reel" quilt that has been waiting for quilting for a long time.  I used a Fons and Porter design that was in one of their books several years ago.  The design is fused and hand button hole stitched.

I started a new quilt project from a Lori Holt design called "Autumn Love"  I purchased a kit to do it as I did not have the brighter and happier prints that Lori uses.  Two applique blocks done.

And two heart block for the "County Fair" quilt.

Quilt making has been especially enjoyable of late and I am anxious to finish old projects and start new ones.  I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Your Dearest Boy bird block is so pretty, Karen. I didn't notice the eye wasn't there yet.

Your Lori Holt blocks are fabulous. I love her designs and colors. I am currently working on two of her cross stitch designs and finished one earlier this year. I really need to get back to the sewing machine though.

I have to catch my breath every time I read one of your posts. You are amazing! I love all of these. You have inspired me to perhaps try a kit in the near future. I have mostly reproduction fabrics so if I want to do something new and modern I think a kit would be a great idea!

I changed the bird too. It made appliqueing it much easier. Ooooh I love your new projects. Your Oakleaf quilt is beautiful. I'm a fan of Lori Holt. I have a couple of books and want to start one of her quilts. Hugs

Everything looks wonderful. The Oak Leaf and Reel quilt looks so snuggly and I love the colors in it. The Lori Holt blocks are bright and cheerful. Can't go wrong with pumpkins in a wagon. The little hearts are adorable. Your Dearest Boy quilt block is so pretty, it will be a great quilt!

Just lovely interpretation on Dearest Boy--and the Oak and Reel looks do-able with fusing--at least for me these days--so lovely--did you use matching thread or invisible? Those Lori Holt Blocks are just SO cute nice works hugs, Julierose

Enjoying quilting is what it's all about. Dearest Boy block looks great. The oak and reel quilt is very nice, I think stitching around those shapes would be something I might enjoy - such a soothing peaceful quilt.

Your work is wonderful. I remember seeing the Oak Leaf pattern years ago and loved it then but felt it was ... and still is ... way beyond my capabilities. I have the Lori Holt pattern and some of her fabrics and am going to try her method of hand applique. Do you do needle turn? ... ♥️ Pat

What amazing blocks. I love your Oak Leaf and Reel especially with all the plaids. It's your perfect prim style. Bet it's fun to work on Lori H. project and play with different fabrics. Having fun is what it's all about.

Your Oak Leaf and Reel is really beautiful, Karen! I love that design, but you know why I will never make it. :)
The Lori Holt blocks look delightful.
The heart blocks are very cute--I need to look back and see if you have talked about the County Fair quilt before.

So great to read you're "in the zone" and enjoying your stitching time!
Sometimes kits are worth it for a quick start. I was just reading our state guilds exhibit guidelines and no quilts from kits are allowed in the judged categories. Interesting since kits are so popular. I suppose fabric selection is part of judging?
Anyway...happy Stitching!

You have been really busy, love all your new appliqués and that oak leaf is gorgeous, would love to have a bed quilt with a nice design like that. I am finally cleaning my room, so no excuses, time to make some large quilts.

Love your Dearest Boy block Karen, good idea to simplify the appliqué by doing the legs & body as one. Love love love your oak and reel quilt, just beautiful. I’m also a fan of Lori Holt especially her fabrics which don’t seem to be readily available in Australia.

Dearest boy is back!! I love your bird block. Autumn Love is absolutely gorgeous. I've always wondered if fused appliqué and blanket stitching can hold up to laundering? Of course, after putting that much work into a quilt like that, it would definitely be a show quilt and not for daily use! I love Lori Holt's happy colors and quilt blocks. I look forward to seeing your quilt come to life!

I remember that Oak and Reel from Fons and Porter- I always admired it!
Love the Lori Holt blocks. It is fun to work out of our "normal" zone.
The dearest boy block is a cutie too! A reminder that each day we get closer to spring!!

Love your bird block--so cute surrounded by those little pennies! I'm completely envious that your Oak Leaf and Reel is finished--it's wonderful! Now I really want to get started on mine! The Lori Holt blocks are adorable and I think it's pretty smart to do it from a kit so you don't end up with piles of fabric that aren't your usual "medium"!

Great Oak Leaf and Reel - and those pumpkin blocks are so darn cute! Liking the bright oranges and fun fabric on the wheels.

Wonderful projects! Love your Oak Leaf and Reel blocks. Great idea to buy a kit to try out some new fabrics. I'd have to do the same as my stash is mostly repros.

Hello! All your blocks are lovely. I especially love the quilt, and how you hand embroidered the edges. I enjoy that kind of work. Buying a kit is such a good idea. I don't have bright fabrics either. My sister has always purchased kits as she mostly does heirloom baby sewing. You inspire me to get busy and sew! I have two baby quilts that must get done, plus all my regular sewing. So thank you, I'm going to get busy drawing the embroidery for the labels.
