Dearest Boy Update

I have added two blocks to the "Dearest Boy" quilt.  There is one more ten inch block to make and then the larger center block with the cow.  I know some of you have been watching for the cow block so not too much longer.

The first block is a compass style.  I chose to do it in applique.  The light print with the pink squiggles is all one piece.  The green circle was stitched on as a solid circle and then the inside trimmed out revealing the light print below.  I then needle turned the inside seam allowance of the green circle.  So, an alternative way to create a compass block without piecing it.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.  I enjoy reading your comments or just wave if you don't have time.

Beautiful blocks and fabric choices. I do miss doing appliqué, but want to finish a few projects first.
I do have a lot of Christmas pieces I could start and get prepped, then I will have them ready when I want to work on something.

What a pretty block and a very neat way to make a compass block--I will have to keep that method in mind if I ever have to make one (like I will remember by then???)
not sure if I commented on your last post--but I love those two quilts too--
great work--
luv, di

Thank you for telling us how you made the Dearest Boy block. I've been thinking about compass/star quilts lately and just last night was wondering if the points and circles could be appliqued. So glad to see that they can! Your points are so sharp on this block and placement of the points so perfect. Maybe some year in the far-distant future I can approach your level of expertise, Karen.

Like your approach to making the compass block! It turned out so well & it shows your love of applique perfectly. The white fabric with the little pink paisley motif is lovely and plays so well with the other pink fabric...The 2nd block is full of warm, comforting colors and pieced beautifully!

That was a clever way to make the compass block a true appliquer's approach. I love the fabrics you put together for the other block, a real country look. You are advancing to the finish line on this quilt.

Love compass blocks but hate piecing them, so I think using applique was a great idea that I might borrow one day! T

Nicely coordinated fabrics on the compass, and looks like you came up with the favored method of construction.
That second block is very cozy and inviting.

Why is it that some blocks just seem more doable in applique! Great work on these.:)

Great solution for a block that would be a challenge to piece.

Your block looks great--I think applique was the way to go on this one. Also love the fabrics you used in your pieced block. You must be pretty close to the end on this project!

Thanks for explaining how you accomplished the compass block. Makes total sense once you explained.

Great technique for a compass block! I much prefer applique over complicated piecing! :-)
