December "Mary Brown" Update and Halloween Sampler

I have had my "Celebrating Mary Brown" block done but had not taken a picture of it and onto a blog post.  In this block, I like the stripe flower best of any of them.

I am working on a Jan Patek design along with a quilting friend (non-blogger).  The pattern is "Pleasant Grove Primer".  I have some parts done and am sharing a picture but this is not the actual layout of the blocks.

Look for more Jan Patek quilts from me in 2020.

Below are some of the applique blocks from the "Halloween Sampler" by Fig Tree that I have been working on through the fall along with two quilting friends.  The pattern is a combo of pieced and applique designs.  I am using the fabrics shown on the pattern cover.  My friends are each using fabrics of their choice and different from mine.  Other than color, there is nothing about the pattern that screams "Halloween".

If you missed out on the line of fabric I used, Moda is going to reprint it and should be in the quilt shops mid-summer.  I have extra of the fabric and have plans to make one or two more smaller quilts from it.  There were several patterns available that used this particular fabric for the sample quilt.

'I just ordered a Lori Holt quilt kit this morning from Fat Quarter Shop.  The "Vintage Housewife".  I am ordering a kit because I don't have much of that style fabric in my stash.

I plan a quiet New Year's Eve and will do some applique.  May you have a wonderful New Year!

Collector's Series Quilt

I finally completed the "Collector's Series" which is from a set of patterns by Jan Patek.  I was working on it in 2010 and again in 2012.  I do not remember when I completed the top but quite some time ago.  I finally decided I was never going to get around to hand quilting it so had it machine quilted.  Binding done a few days ago.

The pattern is still available on Jan Patek's website and for much less money than it was when first published and done as a block of the month.  I am happy to have finally finished.  Very prim in style.  My two favorite blocks are the basket block in the upper right and the basket block in the lower left.

More finishes to come shortly.

Jo's Variety Album

A quilt top finish.  "Jo's Variety Album".  The pattern is in Jo Morton's quilt book called "For All Seasons".  It measures about 50 inches by 50 inches.  I left off the last border which would have only added about 3 inches more to the quilt.  It would not have made the quilt good for a sofa throw and it makes a larger wall hanging as is.  I will bind the quilt in red after it is quilted.

I looked back and see that the center applique section was finished in November of 2016 so three years waiting to be finished.  I had finished the smaller surrounding applique blocks.  Just needed to sash them and attach to the center section.  Then piece the hour glass blocks.  I am trying to finish up some lingering quilt projects.

Hope you enjoyed your visit.

Snow Family Ornament

I spent the afternoon making a tree ornament from Olde Green Cupboard's "Snow Family" pattern.  Made from wool with a piece of an Army blanket for the back section.  The ornament is for an ornament exchange with quilting friends at our holiday gathering.  The only guideline was that it had to be handmade.  It was fun to get back to working with wool.  It has been a while.  I used part of a black snap for each of the buttons on Papa's coat

I want to make one for myself but it probably won't happen  any time soon.

I changed the header picture from turkeys to a section of the alphabet quilt top I made from a Cheri pattern.  I need to dig it out of the quilt top stash and get it quilted.

Enjoy the season!
